In Delivery: Canam U.S. delivers steel components for Oregon school

Canam’s Sunnyside, WA, plant fabricated double-pitched joists as well as standard joists for the construction of the new Happy Valley Elementary School in Happy Valley, OR, near Portland.
The steel components framing the school’s gymnasium include girders, shortspan, midspan and longspan joists, as well as 19 double-pitched joists, each 94 feet long and 56 inches deep.
The new facility, covering a total of 186,000 square feet (17,280 m2), houses both an elementary school and a middle school. Though adjoining within a single large structure, the two schools will function as separate institutions. The 69,000-square-foot (6410 m2) elementary school portion will accommodate 550 students.
The project is managed by Canam customer North Star Industries of Oregon.
The elementary school will open in time for the 2008-2009 school year.
