In Delivery: Canam U.S. fabricates bowstrings for Maryland school

Canam’s Point of Rocks, MD, plant fabricated a series of complex joists for the new Bel Air High School, currently under construction in Bel Air, MD, near Baltimore.
These steel components, consisting of longspan, midspan and bowstring joists, will be used to build the school’s gymnasium and theater. Unlike a traditional school auditorium, the theater and gymnasium will be separate facilities. The elaborately designed theater will also serve the residents of Bel Air, with the Town of Bel Air helping to fund the construction of this joint use school/community theater facility.
The 60-foot by 100-foot longspan joists were designed and fabricated to support the theater’s catwalks. The project is managed by Canam customer Kinsley Construction of Pennsylvania.
The new, larger building will replace the original high school and is slated to open in 2009.
