Canam US launches the Preferred Joist Package

Canam US, a business unit of Canam Group, introduced a new engineering tool, dubbed the Preferred Joist Package (PJP), at the NASCC Steel Conference in Nashville that took place from April 2-5, 2008.

The PJP is a selection of value-added, joist design features developed for electronic insertion into building plans prior to bid, in the form of a text box. It was unveiled at the Canam US booth by the company’s engineering team, who pitched the new tool as the “preferred” solution to situations commonly encountered by engineers of record during building construction.

Unique to Canam US, the PJP allows engineers to easily include specification language for certain design features that enhance safety and overall project economy. The PJP focuses on four key areas: the elimination of field-added struts where possible, concentrated load capacity, seat rollover capacity and shear reversal capacity. Over 70 engineers, fabricators and erectors who visited the Canam US booth were given USB keys loaded with the bid-ready CAD specifications.

A web page will soon be available on the Canam US web site to provide more information on the PJP. Until then, inquiries and requests for the specifications can be sent to .
