In Delivery: Bowed trusses for the expansion of the Mississippi Coast Convention Center

Canam U.S. fabricated more than 1,000 tons of trusses as part of the project to renovate and expand the Mississippi Coast Convention Center. This building, located in Biloxi, Mississippi, was damaged by Hurricane Katrina in September 2005.
The exhibit hall, included in the expansion of the convention center and involving Canam’s participation, is slated to open in 2009. Bowed trusses, 13 feet (4 m) deep by 90 feet (27.4 m) long, are currently being erected over the exhibit hall area and other trusses over the entrance area, forming an elaborate curved, sloping roof. Canam also designed all the truss connections for this convention center building on the Gulf of Mexico shoreline.
Canam’s customer, Ellis Steel of Clay, MS, is the structural steel fabricator and W.G. Yates & Sons Construction of Biloxi, MS, is the general contractor on this project.
