Canam pipe/tube façade being sheathed in Maryland
The Canam U.S. Point of Rocks “specials” line spent several weeks custom-fabricating steel trusses and columns using hollow structural sections. These components will be used in the façade of the new bio-defense research building being erected on the campus of Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland.
The columns and trusses, which weigh 26 tons in all, required shotblasting for a smooth finish as they will be visible through the glass façade of the building, which was installed in mid-February.
Baltimore Steel Erectors, Canam’s customer for the project, erected and fabricated the rest of the building’s structural steel components.
The building will open for research in 2008.
