Canam U.S. delivers joists for “green” city hall project

Canam’s Washington, MO, plant recently completed the delivery of joists for the roof of the new Greensburg City Hall in Greensburg, Kansas, where 95% of the town’s structures were destroyed by an EF-5 tornado about 2 miles (3.2 km) in diameter in 2007.

The town has pledged to make sure every public building with over 4,000 square feet (372 m2) of floor area meets U.S. Green Building Council standards. The town requires LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) “Silver” standards or higher for such buildings. This involves the integration of environmental attributes, including recycled content, which Canam uses in the production of its steel components.

Canam U.S. fabricated 57 shortspan joists for the steeply pitched, “green” roof of the new Greensburg City Hall. The customer for this project was PKM Steel Service of Salina, Kansas. Architect BNIM of Kansas City, Missouri, was hired to design the Greensburg City Hall and other buildings slated for reconstruction.
