Project Features
Completion: 1993
It is Scranton’s upscale multi-level mall situated off Lackawanna’s historic railway park. Canam United States and Structal-Heavy Steel Construciton designed, fabricated and erected over 3,500 tons of structural steel and decking to complete this project in record time. Steamtown Mall opened for Thanksgiving 1994, only fifteen months after Canam and Structal had been awarded the steel structure. The design featured 50-foot long composite floor trusses as well as rigid frame construction to eliminate the need for vertical bracing to create the utmost in tenant flexibility. Cantilevered walkways over the lower court walkway, several pedestrian bridges and an architectural skylight the length of the court walkway area were prominent in the architectural concept.
