Specialty joists for new Indianapolis International Airport supported specialty serpentine structural trusses fabricated for the state-of-the-art terminal. Barrel joists were fabricated for coordination with structural steel erected and fabricated by Cives Steel to accomplish a rolling roof profile. All 400 of Canam’s barrel joists required canted seats and deck bearing plates to allow the joists to rest perpendicular to the floors while following the changing slope of the trusses. A prime coat of Tnemec paint was applied to the joist prior to delivery to the jobsite. The two identical concourse structures branch off from the main terminal and run approximately 1,200 feet. The roof of these structures are formed with 110' long sloping barrel joists. These joist were fabricated and shipped in one piece in order to aid in erection.
