This Athletic Field House for a private school in West town, PA required the fabrication of 11 sets of 140-foot scissor girders to accommodate the athletic activities taking place in the Center.
A 24-foot elevation occurs from the peak of the scissor girders to the top of the bearing wall. The steel girders were designed in scissor formation to allow adequate 37-foot clearance above the nets for the school’s tennis program, which is located in the Field House.
The field house also includes three basketball courts surrounded by an indoor track; a wrestling center; offices and other athletic facilities on the top floor.
The building’s design integrated daylighting and natural ventiliation in line with the school’s wish to accommodate environmentally sound principles. |
